Who are we? > Leadership Groups > People Leadership Group
The People Leadership Group was originally one of the LEP Board’s sub-groups and led on all People-themed agendas within the Heart of the South. The Heart of the South West has a long history of joint working and collaboration around skills and employment matters. As such, the area benefits from both a long-standing commitment to joint working and collaboration on skills matters between business, providers and public sector partners, with extensive experience in taking forward shared projects and ambitions.
This group has now been superseded by the Skills Advisory Panel.
The Construction Labour and Skills Steering Group has been set up as a LEP partnership involving representatives from HotSW local authorities, the construction industry and education and training providers to oversee the delivery of the HotSW Strategic Plan for Construction Labour and Skills and associated action plan. The core aims of the group are:
To create the conditions for sustainable growth in the local construction sector by building stakeholder awareness, ownership and responsiveness to the local construction labour and skills challenge.
To maximise productivity and employment opportunities by ensuring access to sufficient numbers of talented people with the appropriate skills to deliver the project pipeline and to support industry capability.
To capitalise on the local construction sector’s assets and stakeholder links to improve the industry’s competitive edge.
The group was established in the autumn of 2015 and its achievements and initiatives will be reported upon on this website and promoted through the media and the LEP newsletter. The following documents give background to the issues currently facing the construction labour and skills agenda:
A number of research reports have been produced and commissioned by the LEP and our partners. To view the reports, please click here.
