Maritime UK SW is a partnership supported and led by South West public, research and business organisations.  

The mission of Maritime UK SW is to bring together the breadth of our regional ocean economy, working in partnership to champion, grow and clean the sector.

Every year we publish our achievements in the past year and plans for next. This provides a workplan for partners interested in promoting themselves via cluster communications and also in partnering in cluster activity.

MARITIME AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS REGULATORY WORKING GROUP CONFERENECE 18-19th JAN

Topics covered in the event, which will be opened by the Maritime Minister, will include: Maritime Policy, Cyber, Maritime Assurance Frameworks, Ports & Harbours, Space and Legal issues.

ROYAL NAVY ENGAGEMENT EVENT - 28TH JAN

The Royal Navy Develop Directorate will be holding an industry engagement event online on 28th January 2022. The event is an introduction for Industry to the new Maritime Operating Concept key themes. 

INNOVATE UK CORNWALL EVENT - 8TH FEB

Innovate UK are holding an online event where businesses can find out about the local economic success story in Cornwall and information on the support businesses can access to grow and scale up and develop new ideas, access funding opportunities, networks to find new partners and collaborators. 

NEW MARITIME SKILLS AND INNOVATION CENTRE OPENS IN PLYMOUTH

City College Plymouth’s flagship Centre of Higher Technical Innovation and Maritime Skills (TIMS) is officially open. With cutting edge equipment available for business use.  

FUNDING FOR UK-SINGAPORE COLLABORATIVE R&D

UK registered businesses can apply for a share of up to £3 million for the purpose of developing innovative proposals with Singapore.

OPEN CALL FOR UK SMES TO JOIN CONNECTED PLACES CATAPULT’S HYBRID INVESTMENT DAY

Connected Places Catapult’s Hybrid Investment Day will take place on 10th February 2022. Up to 10 companies will have 3 minutes to pitch to an audience of experienced investors followed by 5 minutes for Q&As.

EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY – BUSINESS APPLICATIONS

ESA Business Applications’ Call for proposals enables businesses from any sector to apply for funding to develop a new commercial service that utilises one or more space asset e.g. Satellite Communications, Earth Observation, Satellite Navigation, Human Spaceflight technologies etc.

MARITIME UK AWARDS 2022 - DEADLINE JAN 28TH

The third Maritime UK Awards are being held at the Glasgow Science Centre, on 10th March. Deadlines for submissions will soon be upon us so do get your submissions in ASAP!!! We know the SW is best. 

BUILD BACK BETTER: PEOPLE - WEBINAR 19TH JAN

Maritime UK invite you to join us for the first webinar in our 2022 Build Back Better series which will delve into our National Priorities and discuss progress to date against the Maritime 2050 strategy. 

HOME OFFICE MARITIME CAPABILITY EVENT

Home Office to present to the market the Home Office’s key operational challenges in securing the UK border in the English Channel from migrants in small boats. And to: 

• Seek industry insight and expertise to solve these challenges; and
• Gain an understanding of experiences elsewhere in the world.

      David Ralph

      Chief Executive

      David Ralph started as Chief Executive of Heart of South West LEP at the beginning of June 2018. Previously, he had spent 5 years as CEO of the Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire (D2N2) LEP from 2013 where he oversaw the development of the D2N2 Strategic Economic Plan and sector strategies, 3 Growth Deals with HM Government to deliver a £1billion capital investment programme, securing and implementing £200m ESIF programme, the Derby and Nottingham Enterprise Zone, the D2N2 Skills Deal and Time for Innovation programme, community fund and led the executive team to develop the HS2 East Midlands hub. He was also closely involved in the proposed North Midlands Devolution Deal and one of the key architects in establishing the Midlands Engine, chairing the officer steering group. Whilst in this role David was a NED of the Nottingham Enterprise Zone, and Marketing NG, the Outer Estates Foundation and a Governor of Nottingham College and on the advisory Board of Nottingham Business School.

      Before the East Midlands, David was CEO of the Have Gateway Partnership working closely with local stakeholders including the ports of Felixstowe, Harwich and Ipswich and BT Adadastral Park across Suffolk and Essex and prior to that was Chief Exec of the Barton Hill New Deal for Communities programme in Bristol and the Nelm Development Trust in Norwich.

      David is a keen sailor, walker and trail runner.
