Maritime UK SW is a partnership supported and led by South West public, research and business organisations.  

The mission of Maritime UK SW is to bring together the breadth of our regional ocean economy, working in partnership to champion, grow and clean the sector.

Every year we publish our achievements in the past year and plans for next. This provides a workplan for partners interested in promoting themselves via cluster communications and also in partnering in cluster activity.

Fit 4 Offshore Renewables

The F4OR Programme is a 12-18 month duration, intermediate intensity activity which is specifically designed to support the UK supply chain get ready to bid for work in the offshore renewable energy sector.

Green Tech Boatshow & Clean Marine Innovation showcase 16-18th June

Following the success of the first Green Tech Boat Show last year, the show will take place again this year at its Queen Anne’s Battery, Plymouth, 16-18 June 2022. In 2022 the first day of the Green Tech Boat Show will be focussed exclusively on clean marine innovation, “The Clean Marine Innovation Showcase” will create a unique forum for government, research and business to come together to exchange ideas, showcase new innovations, network and do business.

Global Business Innovation Programme - Innovate UK

High-growth innovative businesses are supported during each Global Business Innovation Programme to explore and exploit the collaboration, growth and innovation opportunities that exist in a specific markets e.g. Canada: Ocean technology, South Korea: Hydrogen get on it SW businesses!

Crown Estate invests over £12 million in new research to help protect the UK marine environment

The Crown Estate is partnering with a range of UK-wide expert bodies to launch three significant research projects that will help to enable the coexistence of offshore wind farms with a thriving marine environment.

Connected Places Catapult’s Hybrid Investment Day will take place on 10th February 2022. Up to 10 companies will have 3 minutes to pitch to an audience of experienced investors followed by 5 minutes for Q&As.

Yara Marine X accelerator program

Tech startups are being invited to join the second edition of an accelerator program which focuses on decarbonising the maritime industry.

Webinar: Decarbonisation – what it means for you and how it can help your business. A focus on construction products 10th Feb

Marine Civils at Seawork in association with CECA, present a series of bitesize online conferences discussing ‘Decarbonisation – what is means for you and how it can help your business.’ The series will look at several key topics impacting the marine civils industry, including HVO fuels and construction products.

National Shipbuilding Strategy – Home Shipbuilding Credit Guarantee Scheme - Survey

The survey will assist the UK Government’s research into what other financing options exist in the ship building market, where there may be a market gap and demand for a UK Government guarantee scheme.

      David Ralph

      Chief Executive

      David Ralph started as Chief Executive of Heart of South West LEP at the beginning of June 2018. Previously, he had spent 5 years as CEO of the Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire (D2N2) LEP from 2013 where he oversaw the development of the D2N2 Strategic Economic Plan and sector strategies, 3 Growth Deals with HM Government to deliver a £1billion capital investment programme, securing and implementing £200m ESIF programme, the Derby and Nottingham Enterprise Zone, the D2N2 Skills Deal and Time for Innovation programme, community fund and led the executive team to develop the HS2 East Midlands hub. He was also closely involved in the proposed North Midlands Devolution Deal and one of the key architects in establishing the Midlands Engine, chairing the officer steering group. Whilst in this role David was a NED of the Nottingham Enterprise Zone, and Marketing NG, the Outer Estates Foundation and a Governor of Nottingham College and on the advisory Board of Nottingham Business School.

      Before the East Midlands, David was CEO of the Have Gateway Partnership working closely with local stakeholders including the ports of Felixstowe, Harwich and Ipswich and BT Adadastral Park across Suffolk and Essex and prior to that was Chief Exec of the Barton Hill New Deal for Communities programme in Bristol and the Nelm Development Trust in Norwich.

      David is a keen sailor, walker and trail runner.
