The Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (HotSW LEP) is one of the 38 LEPs in England, covering Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay. It’s a business-led partnership between the private sector, local authorities, universities and colleges.
Its vision is to create a dynamic, highly prosperous region with high living standards and an outstanding quality of life; and its mission is to raise productivity and ensure prosperity for all.
The LEP is now seeking a new chair and two new board directors from the private or social enterprise sector to lead and shape the strategies that will deliver this mission.
The new chair and board members will work to strengthen the LEP’s role as the main thought-leader influencing economic development in the HotSW area and deliver the area’s Local Industrial Strategy.
The board also oversees the LEP’s delivery programme of infrastructure, business support and skills projects worth three-quarters of a billion pounds being delivered by 2021, therefore candidates with a strong business background at a senior level are required to make a positive contribution to the board.
For the Board members, the LEP is looking specifically for expertise in key sectors including Digital, Hi- skilled Engineering and Energy with particular emphasis on SME development and diversity. The LEP’s Board will be enhanced with candidates who have held senior leadership roles in these key sectors and/or have experience of running an SME and therefore understands the opportunities, challenges and infrastructure needed to make them prosper.
Chair of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, Steve Hindley CBE DL, said:
“It has been a great pleasure and honour to lead this dynamic partnership; and I look forward to seeing a new chair taking up the legacy to lead the LEP through the next phase of its delivery.
“These positions offer a great opportunity for local high-calibre business leaders to actively shape strategies to benefit our economy and communities.
“I urge business or social economy leaders with passion and expertise to joining the LEP on our journey towards raising productivity and prosperity for all.â€
The chair will be required to represent the LEP at key events and media opportunities in the HotSW area and at meetings in London with MPs, ministers and stakeholders. The chair and non-executive directors will be required to attend board meetings once every two months and periodic meetings or events across the HotSW LEP area, related to their areas of expertise to support LEP activity.
Appointments are for 3 years and would normally be extended for a further 3-year term. A small salary is offered for the role of Chair, however the current Chair opted to forgo this. Board member roles are unremunerated, however expenses will be paid for exceptional expenditure for LEP commitments outside of our area.
LEP is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applicants reflecting the diversity of the community. Recruitment of the chair and board members is through an open and transparent process administered by a nominations committee.
