Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre visit Leonardo Somerset site

Leonardo Helicopters, with support from the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) in Yeovil, hosted a team from the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) on Tuesday 14th March to explore how Leonardo and the AMRC could work together in the future on manufacturing-related technologies.

After viewing operations at Yeovil, Matthew Farnsworth, Commercial Director at the AMRC, commented: “The breadth of capability at Leonardo Helicopters Yeovil is remarkable. I don’t think you will find a complete end-to-end capability like this – with raw materials going in on one end and a whole aircraft coming out of the other – anywhere else in the UK. The AMRC team had been looking forward to visiting Leonardo and to get a better understanding of the iAero Centre. We are now excited to find out how we can work with Leonardo and the LEP to improve productivity in the UK.”

Corinne Matthews, Nuclear and Aerospace Lead at the Heart of the South West LEP, added: “I was pleased to have the opportunity to support Leonardo and to speak directly with the AMRC. Their strengths align strongly with HotSW LEP goals, and I look forward to discussing in more detail how we can work with the AMRC, along with the other catapults in the region to further develop the South West aerospace supply chain, and add value to the sector in the UK.”
