GB09 – Welding Centre of Excellence

City College Plymouth will set up a Welding Centre of Excellence (CoE) to enhance and extend welding facilities including virtual welding.

The Centre’s provision will address the skills gaps and shortages in the welding profession across the region, with high demand across the area due to developments at Hinkley and increased demand from marine and advanced engineering firms.

Additional capacity created at Plymouth’s Welding Centre of Excellence will reinforce long term capability within the South West to provide relevant skills to meet current and future demand. Modernised facilities and innovative equipment will enable specialist trainers to provide welding training from entry level to higher level specialised and bespoke provision, supporting new entrants into welding careers and providing specialist skills to support employer growth.
