MUKSW NETWORK EVENT: SUPPORTING THE SHIFT TO CLEAN MARINE PROPULSION AND CHARGING IN PLYMOUTH AND SOUTH DEVON

Maritime UK SW and partners will host an event with the ambition of pioneering a non-fossil fuelled marine ecosystem in Plymouth and South Devon. The event will provide technical and market information, examples of market solutions already available, expert support and will establish a peer network to enable businesses to make informed decisions around making the shift, now or in future to electric or hybrid motors and installing charging points.

MUKSW SOUTH WEST AQUACULTURE NETWORK (SWAN) CONFERENCE 28TH OCTOBER, DORSET

The South West Aquaculture Network (SWAN) is holding its first AGM and conference on Thursday 28th October 2021, at Kingston Maurward College, near Dorchester.

FEATURE IN MARITIME UK’S #NETZEROMARITIME SHOWCASE

Maritime UK is calling on companies and organisations from across the sector to populate a showcase of projects having a positive impact on the decarbonisation of the maritime sector.

Case studies will be used at London International Shipping Week 2021, COP26 – UN Climate Change Conference and in support of the sector’s Spending Review bid.

OFFSHORE WIND GROWTH PARTNERSHIP: BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMMES

The Offshore Wind Growth Partnership (OWGP) has launched a new Business Transformation opportunity, offering up to £700,000 of support to companies which will be delivered by OWGP in partnership with Expert Consultants and Strategic Partners. This funding, combined with existing live Business Transformation opportunities provides support of up to £2.2m.

SW AUTONOMY CLUSTER AWARDED A “HIGH POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITY” TO PROMOTE INWARD INVESTMENT IN THE SECTOR

The award by the Department for International Trade of the High Potential Opportunity in Marine Autonomy  highlights the emerging opportunity in the SW to design, test, validate and manufacture marine autonomous systems in the UK’s largest maritime cluster; meeting growing demand across sectors including Offshore Renewable Energy, Defence, Aquaculture and Shipping.

CONTRACT INFORMATION FOR UK AND FRENCH TIDAL ENERGY PROJECTS – TIGER SUPPLY CHAIN EVENT SERIES

In 2021 the TIGER tidal energy project organised two supply chain webinars, developed in collaboration with leading tidal energy developers and other industry experts in order to open up supply chains and bring new ideas into the development of tidal stream energy. The events covered a wide range of current and longer term cross sector supply chain opportunities emanating from six tidal energy development sites in France and in the UK.

Seafood Hazards is one of the four interconnected themes contributing to the goals of the Cefas Science and Evidence Strategy through which we aim to maintain and grow the impact of our science, advice, innovation and collaboration.

 

NEW FUNDING FROM SETSQUARED WILL OFFER VITAL SUPPORT FOR UK COMPANIES

More businesses will be able to unlock vital R&D investment support following the announcement of a two year extension to the SETsquared Scale-Up Programme. Businesses in high-growth sectors such as health tech and sustainable tech will now be able to access expert support to raise public and private co-investment into their research and development and innovation.

 

SOUTH WEST MARINE PLAN

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is pleased to announce the first South West Inshore and Offshore Marine Plan was adopted by the Secretary of State in June 2021 by the Right Hon. George Eustice MP, Secretary of State, Defra. The North East, North West and South East Marine Plans were also adopted.

BLUE PLANET FUND

The UK’s £500 million Blue Planet Fund supports developing countries to protect the marine environment and reduce poverty.

      David Ralph

      Chief Executive

      David Ralph started as Chief Executive of Heart of South West LEP at the beginning of June 2018. Previously, he had spent 5 years as CEO of the Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire (D2N2) LEP from 2013 where he oversaw the development of the D2N2 Strategic Economic Plan and sector strategies, 3 Growth Deals with HM Government to deliver a £1billion capital investment programme, securing and implementing £200m ESIF programme, the Derby and Nottingham Enterprise Zone, the D2N2 Skills Deal and Time for Innovation programme, community fund and led the executive team to develop the HS2 East Midlands hub. He was also closely involved in the proposed North Midlands Devolution Deal and one of the key architects in establishing the Midlands Engine, chairing the officer steering group. Whilst in this role David was a NED of the Nottingham Enterprise Zone, and Marketing NG, the Outer Estates Foundation and a Governor of Nottingham College and on the advisory Board of Nottingham Business School.

      Before the East Midlands, David was CEO of the Have Gateway Partnership working closely with local stakeholders including the ports of Felixstowe, Harwich and Ipswich and BT Adadastral Park across Suffolk and Essex and prior to that was Chief Exec of the Barton Hill New Deal for Communities programme in Bristol and the Nelm Development Trust in Norwich.

      David is a keen sailor, walker and trail runner.
