ROAD TO NET ZERO ROADSHOW – FOCUS ON THE SOUTH WEST

Maritime UK and Maritime UK SW are  working to build political support for  Government investment to kick-start maritime decarbonisation. The invite only VIP event will build senior level support for investment in clean maritime growth within the region.

SMART MARITIME LAND OPERATIONS £1.35M CALL

MarRI-UK, supported by the Department for Transport (DfT), has allocated up to £1.35M to fund projects through a competition that will support the development of technology, innovations or services relating to Smart Maritime Land Operations and show potential to demonstrate measurable benefits to the UK Maritime Sector.

TIDAL STREAM ENERGY SUPPLY CHAIN AND COLLABORATION OPPORTUNITIES DOCUMENTED

An Anglo-French project known as TIGER which aims to accelerate the tidal stream energy industry in the Channel  region has worked with leading tidal stream  energy  developers from France and the UK to uncover supply chain and innovation opportunities that span a range of disciplines and provide a valuable repository of information, opportunities and contacts into a rapidly growing market.

UNIVERSITY OF PLYMOUTH RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS FUND

A £200,000 fund, delivered in partnership between the University of Plymouth and Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants, is designed to stimulate industrial collaborations and knowledge transfer opportunities between our researchers and businesses – aiming to solve specific ‘business problems’..

MARITIME UK SW – PARTNERING AND SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL 2021

Maritime UK SW is supported by a mix of public, private and research partners who invest to enable cluster representation for the South West Ocean Economy. The cluster offers two levels of participation,  as strategic partner or sponsor. The cluster provides  benefit  in terms of  promotion, lobbying, brokerage and networking.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) supports and encourages UK business to grow internationally by showcasing the best of British innovation at key events. DIT are offering businesses the opportunity to feature in their 2021 international marketing materials.

CROSS SECTOR FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR AVIATION AND MARITIME

Offshore and large infrastructure assets are typically remote, costly and dangerous to inspect. As industry strives to keep costs down the commercialisation of drone technology delivers a cheap and efficient business solution. KTN (Knowledge Transfer Network) are here to support companies to capitalise on this rapidly evolving market by leveraging funding.

As delivery partners, KTN are supporting a variety of collaborative funding opportunities enabling the development of air mobility solutions. The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) Future Flight and the UFO – Emerging Industries New Value Chains Boosted by Small Flying Objects project both offer funding for the development and deployment of drone and small flying object (SFO) applications.

SMART PORT ENTREPRENEURIAL ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT – PROJECT SPEED

Project SPEED is a European Interreg project aimed at building a smart port ecosystem, bridging the gap between the worlds of European ports, the nascent data science and IoT market. In addition to building online and offline arenas for interaction between ports and their stakeholders, SPEED also enables the development of governance and use of innovative ideas and strategies that will position the 2 Seas region as a global leader in the Smart Ports market.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) have appointed a marine sector specialist to help businesses across the Great South West (covering the Heart of the South West, Dorset and Cornwall & Isles of Scilly LEPs) looking to export their products and services internationally.

      David Ralph

      Chief Executive

      David Ralph started as Chief Executive of Heart of South West LEP at the beginning of June 2018. Previously, he had spent 5 years as CEO of the Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire (D2N2) LEP from 2013 where he oversaw the development of the D2N2 Strategic Economic Plan and sector strategies, 3 Growth Deals with HM Government to deliver a £1billion capital investment programme, securing and implementing £200m ESIF programme, the Derby and Nottingham Enterprise Zone, the D2N2 Skills Deal and Time for Innovation programme, community fund and led the executive team to develop the HS2 East Midlands hub. He was also closely involved in the proposed North Midlands Devolution Deal and one of the key architects in establishing the Midlands Engine, chairing the officer steering group. Whilst in this role David was a NED of the Nottingham Enterprise Zone, and Marketing NG, the Outer Estates Foundation and a Governor of Nottingham College and on the advisory Board of Nottingham Business School.

      Before the East Midlands, David was CEO of the Have Gateway Partnership working closely with local stakeholders including the ports of Felixstowe, Harwich and Ipswich and BT Adadastral Park across Suffolk and Essex and prior to that was Chief Exec of the Barton Hill New Deal for Communities programme in Bristol and the Nelm Development Trust in Norwich.

      David is a keen sailor, walker and trail runner.
