The Skills Toolkit wellbeing statement

The Skills Toolkit is a new online learning platform to help boost the nation’s skills while people are staying at home. Free courses are available through The Skills Toolkit. The new platform gives people access to free, high-quality digital and numeracy courses to help build up their skills, progress in work and boost their job prospects.

The National Retraining Scheme project has now ended.

If you would like to explore online training options, please visit our skills providers page on our news skills and employment website or National Careers Service The Skills Toolkit.

The National Retraining Scheme was a project helping prepare adults for future changes to the economy, including those brought about by automation, and help them retrain into better jobs.

The first part of the service, Get help to retrain, was available in the Heart of the South West. Get help to retrain helped adults understand their current skills, identify potential new job roles and find and sign up to local training opportunities.

This service was designed to help those who were:

  • employed
  • didn’t have a qualification at degree level
  • aged 24 or over
  • earning below £35,000 a year
  • living in the Heart of the South West area

Devon and Cornwall Training Providers Network

Learn Devon is offering its full support to anyone looking to get back into work, or for those who want to improve their digital skills and improve wellbeing.

Initially, the programme will offer a range of digital courses, which will be delivered online. As it progresses, the programme will see small groups of up to six learners being taught remotely by a tutor.

The courses will be aimed at people who may have experienced redundancy or are seeking work, volunteers supporting the council during the pandemic, vulnerable groups currently self-isolating, and businesses.

Training will range from work-related courses, such as online safeguarding and food hygiene certificate to digital skills. There will also be online courses and remote tutor-led learning to enable people to look after their mental health.
