The Heart of the South West (HotSW) is a partnership of private, public, education and third sectors. Our Vision for Growth is to reposition the Heart of the South West’s profile and reputation, nationally and globally. Connecting people, places, businesses and ideas to transform our economy, securing investment in infrastructure and skills to create better jobs and enable rewarding careers.

We recognise we will see greater strength by working together – to help our businesses become more profitable and our area more prosperous. Partnership therefore pervades all aspects of how we work.

For example, the LEP is led by a Board of directors drawn from public and private sectors and supported by a range of sub-groups – these drive forward our work on the Strategic Economic Plan (SEP). Working Together

The HotSW covers a large geographical area, which includes 19 Local Authorities (2 Unitary, 2 County, 13 Districts and 2 National Parks), 9 Colleges and 4 Universities. We are also home to a diverse range of businesses and social enterprises, as well as having a variety of business groups and other important stakeholders and funders.Our stakeholders are important to us and we have a plan for how we can better work together, which includes a number of events and how you can engage with your LEP. The LEP’s Partnerships Manager leads on this workand supports partners to take forward the Strategic Economic Plan and other key programmes.

The focus is on supporting the LEP’s priorities of Creating the Conditions for Growth; Maximising Productivity and Employment Opportunities; & Building on our Distinctiveness. In times when funding is tight, sometimes it’s more effective to achieve the shared goal by working together and differently, rather than through specific funding, and that’s what the LEP aims to do.

Annual Conference and AGM

The LEP has been holding an Annual Conference and AGM since 2015 and we regularly get over 250 delegates joining us on the day, representing a broad variety of stakeholders – private, public, education and third sector.

2019 Annual Conference and AGM

The 2019 conference will focus on ‘What is “clean growth” and what could it mean for the Heart of the South West area?’ and takes place at the Riviera Centre, Torquay, on Monday 4th November.Book your place

2018 Annual Conference and AGM

In 2018, we split the day into two parts. The morning session was led by the HotSW LEP’s Growth Hub and was aimed at the wider business community. There was also the opportunity to meet with many of our business support providers in the “market place” exhibition area. The afternoon session was a chance to find out more about the LEP and the Chair of the LEP (Steve Hindley, CBE DL) outlined our achievements over the last twelve months, with David Ralph (our CEX), giving an overview of the LEP’s priorities and ambitions for the coming year.
